Socio-economic information in the 11 months of 2011

Agriculture, forestry & fishery
Agriculture
As of November 15th 2011, the country harvested 1,415,400 ha of winter rice, accounting for 77.4% of total cultivated area and equaling 97.4% from the same period last year. Provinces in the North cultivated 109,100 ha of maize, equaling 70.1%; 37,900 ha of sweet potato, equaling 82.9%; 54,700 ha of soybean, equaling 58.9%; 4,500 ha of peanut, equaling 65.2%; 137,900 ha of vegetables, up 23.9% from last year’s same period.
According to an animal husbandry survey, as of October 1st 2011, the country had 2.7 million buffalos, equaling 93.5%; 5.3 million oxen, equaling 90.1%; 27.1 million pigs, equaling 99.3%; 322 million fowls, up 7.4% from the same period last year.
Forestry
The country’s area under concentrated forestation in 11 months of this year reached 160,500 ha, equaling 73.4%; dispersed planted trees were 176.2 million, up 0.3%; wood production was 3,968,000 m3, up 11.3%; firewood production was 26.8 million Ste, up 2.6% from the same period last year.
The country’s damaged forest area in 11 months was 2,038 ha, of which there were 994 ha burnt and 1,044 ha destroyed.
Fishery
The country’s fishing production in 11 months was estimated reaching 5,009,000 tons, up 4% from the same period last year, of which farmed products achieved 2,658,700 tons, up 5.5%; and catching production gained 2,350,300 tons, up 2.3% (sea catching gained 2,172,600 tons, up 2.4%).
Industry
Industrial Production Index (IPI) in 11 months of this year rose 6.9% from last year’s same period, of which mining and quarrying reduced 0.2%; manufacturing rose 9.8%; power, gas water rose 9.6%. The consumed index for the manufacturing industry in 10 months of 2011 rose 15.7% from the same period last year. The stock index as of November 1st 2011 for the whole sector rose 21.5% from last year’s same period.
Investment
Generally, the realized investment capital from the state budget in this year’s eleven months was 170.6 trillion dong, equaling 84.5% of the yearly plan and up 8.8% from the same period in 2010. Of which, capital under central management was 38.7 trillion dong, equaling 92.3% and up 8.4%; capital under local management was 131.9 trillion dong, equaling 82.4% and up 8.9%.
Attracted FDI from the beginning of the year to November 20th 2011 reached 12,697.4 million USD, equaling 83.8% from last year’s same period. Of which, the registered capital of 919 newly licensed projects was 9,914.5 million USD (reduced 25.4% by capital and 21.3% by projects from the same period last year); additional registered capital of 324 times of projects licensed from previous years was2,782.9 million USD. The realized FDI in 11 months was estimated reaching10.1 billion USD, up 1% from last year’s same period.
In 11 month period, 48 provinces/cities under central direct management over the country had newly licensed FDI projects from 52 foreign countries.
Government revenues and expenditures
As estimated, total Government revenues from the beginning of the year to November, 15 2011 were 586.2 trillion dong, equaling 98.5% of the yearly estimate, of which domestic revenues gained 359.1 trillion dong, equaling 94%; from crude oil 90.3 trillion dong, equaling 130.3%; from export-import balance 132.1 trillion dong, equaling 95.2%. Of the domestic revenues, receiving from the state-owned enterprises accounted for 85.6% of the yearly estimate; from FDI enterprises (excluding crude oil) was 86.9%; from non-state industrial, commercial and service taxes was 93.2%; from taxes imposed on high-income persons was 113.5%; from gasoline fees was 72.1%; and from other fees was 80.5%.
As estimated, total Government expenditures from the beginning of the year to November,15 2011 was 639.1 trillion dong, equaling 88.1% of the yearly estimate. Of which spending for investment and development was 133.2 trillion dong, equaling 87.6% (spending for capital construction only was 127 trillion dong, equaling 87.4%); for economic and social development, national defense and security 419.5 trillion dong, equaling 89.4%; for paying debts and aid 86.4 trillion dong, equaling 100.4% of the yearly estimate.
Trade, prices & services
Total retailed sales of consumer goods and services
As estimated, total retailed sales of consumer goods and services for 11 months reached 1,814 trillion dong, up 23.5% from last year’s same period, and it would be 4.1% if the factor of price increase were excluded. Of which, the trade business gained 1,430 trillion dong, accounted for 78.8% of the total and up 23.6% from the same period last year; hotel and restaurant reached 204.7 trillion dong, accounted for 11.3% and up 26.3%; the service 162.8 trillion dong, accounted for 9% and up 20.6%; the tourist 16.5 trillion dong, accounted for 0.9% and up 11.7%.
Exports-Imports
Generally, eleven months’ total export turnovers reached 87.2 billion USD, up 34.7% from the same period in 2010, of which the domestic economic sector gained 37.8 billion USD, up 27.7%; and the FDI sector (including crude oil) gained 49.4 billion USD, up 40.7%.
Generally, ten months’ import turnovers reached 96.1 billion USD, up 26.4% from last year same period, of which the domestic economic sector gained 52.6 billion, up 23%; and the FDI sector (including crude oil) gained 43.5 billion USD, up 30.8%.
As estimated, eleven months’ trade deficits were 8.9 billion USD, equaling 10.2% of total export turnovers. If gold factor was excluded the figure was at an estimate of 9.2 billion USD, equaling 10.8% of total export turnovers.
Consumer price indexes (CPI)
November’s CPI rose 0.39% from October; groups of goods and services with higher pace than the general including textile, hats, footwear were up 0.65%; family appliances up 0.61%; catering and related services up 0.56% (grain food up 3.25%; foodstuff down 0.26%). Other groups that had lower or decreased pace including drinks and tobacco were up0.25%; medicines and health care up 0.2%; housing and construction material up 0.12%; education up 0.08%; culture, entertainment and tourism down 0.02%; both transport and postal and communication service down 0.01%.
November’s CPI rose 17.5% from December 2010 and 19.83% from the same period last year. Average CPI in 11 months of this year rose 18.62% from that in the same period last year.
Eleven months’ average CPI rose 0.27% from last month; 25.31% from December 2010 and 32.11% from the same period in 2010. November’s USD price index rose 0.69% from October; 2.22% from December 2010 and 5.14% from the same period in 2010.
Carriage of passengers and cargos
As estimated, passenger carriage in 11 months this year reached 2,586.6 million participants, up 14.4% and 110 billion passengers-kilometers, up 11.7% against last year’s same period. Of which central transport gained 38.0 million passengers, up 10.4% and 25.2 billion passengers-kilometers, up 8.9%; local transport reached 2,548.6 million participants, up 14.5% and 84.7 billion passengers-kilometers, up 12.2%. Land transport gained 2,381.6 million passengers, up 14.8% and 82.7 billion passengers-kilometers, up 12.6%; river 175.7 million passengers, up 9.8% and 3.7 billion passengers-kilometers, up 14.8%; aviation 12.4 million passengers, up 10.5% and 19.1 billion passengers-kilometers, up 9.2%; sea 6.1 million passengers, up 2.2% and 372.9 million passengers-kilometers, up 3.4%; rail 10.8 million passengers, up 2.5% and 4 billion passengers-kilometers, up 2.8% from the same period last year.
As estimated, eleven months’ cargo transport reached 734.9 million tons, up 11.9% and 194 billion tons-kilometers, down 0.7% from last year’s same period, of which the domestic transport gained 693.3 million tons, up 12.5% and 63.7 billion tons-kilometers, up 7.2%; the overseas transport reached 41.7 million tons, up 4.1% and 130.2 billion tons-kilometers, down 5%. Land transport gained 564.5 million tons, up 12.8% and 30.6 billion tons-kilometers, up 11.1%; river 114.2 million tons, up 11.7% and 14 billion tons-kilometers, up 14.7%; sea 49.5 million tons, up 5% and 145.2 billion tons-kilometers, down 4.8%; rail 6.7 million tons, down 6.5% and 3.8 billion tons-kilometers, up 6.1%.
Postal and communicational services
Eleven months’ total number of new telephone subscribers reached 10.4 million, down 10.7% from the same period in 2010, including 45,500 desk telephone subscribers, down 77.2% and 10.4 million mobile phone subscribers, down 9.5%. The number of telephone subscribers over the country as end of November 2011 was estimated reaching 131.7 million, up 4.4% against last year’s same period, including 15.5 million desk telephone subscribers, up 0.1% and 116.2 million mobile phone subscribers, up 4.9%.
The number of broad-band internet subscribers as of end of November 2011 was estimated reaching 4.2 million, up 16.3% from the same period last year. The number of internet users as of end of November 2011 was estimated reaching 32.3 million, up 20.1% from last year’s same period. Eleven months’ total postal and communicating service net income was estimated reaching 147.6 trillion dong, rose 21.6% against the same period last year.
International visitors to Viet Nam
International visitors to Viet Nam in 11 months of this year were at an estimate of 5,330,600, up 15.9% from last year’s same period. Of which,visitors coming for tourist purposes were 3,221,900, up 13%; for business purposes 887,300, down 4.8%; for visiting relatives 889,600, up 71%. Visitors to Viet Nam by aviation were 4,465,400, up 20.8%; by sea 32,200, down 30%; by land 833,000, down 2.9% from last year’s same period.
Social issues
Farmers’ hunger
Generally, the country in 11 months had 609,600 hungered households, down 18.6% from last year’s same period, in proportion to 2,563,000 hungered persons, down 12%. To overcome the problem, all administrative levels since the beginning of the year have supported hungered households 16,900 tons of food and 9.2 billion dong.
Epidemic diseases and food poisoning
Generally, the country in 11 months this year had 90,200 cases of foot, hand and mouth disease, of which 153 died; nearly 60,000 cases of hemorrhagic fever (52 died); 8,500 cases of virus hepatitis (2 died); 979 cases of viral encephalitis (21 died); 649 cases of typhoid and 759 cases of A (H1N1) (17 died).
Also in November 2011, the country discovered more 1,500 HIV-infected cases, bringing HIV-infected persons over the country as of mid-November to 274,500, of which 100,200 turned to AIDS and 51,800 died of AIDS.
Traffic accidents
Generally, the country in 10 months had 11,000 cases of traffic accidents, killing 9,300 persons and injuring 8,400 others. As compared to the same period last year, cases of traffic accident decreased by 1.6%, dead cases down by 1.3% while the injured cases rose 2.3%. On average, each day in 10 months of this year, the country had 36 cases of traffic accident, killing 31 persons and injuring 28 others.
