Agriculture, forestry and fishery
As of 15/10/2010, provinces in the North have harvested 892,200 ha of winter rice, equal to 74.9% of the cultivated area and 100.8% of the same period last year. The Red River achieved 502,200 ha, equal to 86.8% of the cultivated area and 109.7% of the same period in 2009, the North’s winter rice productivity was estimated at 4,900 kg/ha. The yield was 5,816,900 tons, increasing by 0.8% as compared to the same crop last year. As of middle of October, provinces in the South have cultivated 665,400 ha of winter rice, decreased by 6.8% as against the same period in 2009.
Together with the winter crop cultivation and harvest, the country has completed the reaping of summer rice with the area of 2,104,500 ha, equal to 98.5% as against the same period last year, of which the Mekong delta gained 1,680,500 ha, equal to 99.8% of the cultivated area; the north central region 161,500 ha, equal to 98.2% of the same period in 2009.
The rate progress for cultivation of other winter crops this year was generally more rapid than that in the same period in2009. As of 15/10, the cultivated area was 154,800 ha of maize, going up by 12.7%; 30,800 ha of sweet potato, the same as in the same period last year; 83,500 ha of soybean, up by 14.7%; and 74,000 ha of vegetables, up by 6.5% as against the same period last year.
Generally in ten months of 2010, the new concentrated forestation area over the country was 189,000 ha, rose by 3.2%. Woodcut production was 3,146,800 m3, up by 5.9%. The dispersed planted trees were 170 million, up by 0.1% against the same period last year.
The damaged forestry area was 7,775.7 ha, 2.5 times as against the same period in 2009, of which the burnt area was 6,718.3 ha, 4.2 times increased; the destroyed area was 1,057.4 ha, decreased by 32.4%.
Generally in ten months of 2010, the total estimated fishing production was 4,240,500 tons, rose by 4.7% over the same period last year, of which there were 3,191,000 tons of fish, up by 4.5%; 470,200 tons of shrimp, up by 6.3%. The farmed production was estimated at 2,252,500 tons, rising by 4.8%; the caught production was 1,988,000 tons, up by 4.6%, of which the sea caught production gained 1,827,000 tons, rose by 4.9% as compared to the same period in 2009.
The general industrial production value at 1994 constant prices in 10 months was at an estimate of 645.7 trillion dongs, increasing by 13.7% as against the same period last year. Of which, the state sector rose by 8.6% (central industry rose by 11.3%; local industry decreased by 2.5%); the non-state industry rose by 12.7%; and the FDI sector by 17.4% (petroleum and gas decreased by 3.5%, others rose by 20.2%). Many main products had higher growths than the general overall rise of the industry.
The general realized investment capital from the state budget in 10 months was 116.2 trillion VND, equaling 90.5% of the yearly estimate, of which, capital under central management was 35.2 trillion dongs, equal to 86.3% of the yearly plan; and capital under local management 81 trillion dongs, equal to 92.5% of the yearly estimate.
The attracted FDI from the beginning of the year to 20/10/2010 was at an estimate of US$12.8 billion, equal to 58.1% compared to that in the same period in 2009. Of which, the registered capital of 759 newly licensed projects was USD 11.6 billion (decreased 19.1% by the number of projects and 28.8% by the capital as compared with the same period last year); the additional registered capital of 210 times of projects licensed from previous years was USD 1.2 billion. The realised FDI in 10 months was estimated at USD 9 billion, growing by 7.1% as against the same period last year.
Government revenues and expenditures
As estimated, total Government revenues from beginning of the year to 15/10/2010 was equal to 88.5% of the yearly estimate, of which domestic revenues accounted for 86.8%; revenues from crude oil 78.7%; from import-export 100.3%. Of the domestic revenues, receiving from the state-owned enterprises equaled to 84.7%; from FDI enterprises (excluding crude oil): 78.3%; from non-state industrial, commercial and service taxes: 81.8%; taxes imposed on high-income persons: 98.1%; petroleum fees: 84%; and other fees: 78.5% of the yearly estimate.
As estimated, total Government expenditures from beginning of the year to 15/10/2010 was equal to 78.7% of the yearly estimate, of which spending for investment and development accounted for 77.8%; for economic and social development, national defense and security: 79.7%; for paying debts and aids: 92%.
Total retailed sales of consumer goods and services
The total retailed sales of consumer goods and services in 10 months at current prices were at an estimate of 1,282 trillion dongs, rose by 25.1% as compared with the same period last year, the growth would be 15%, if the factor of rising price was excluded. Of which, the trade business gained 1,010.9 trillion dongs, rose by 25.8%; the hotel and restaurant: 141.2 trillion dongs, rose by 21.6%; the service 116.9 trillion dongs, rose by 22.3%; and the tourist 13.1 trillion dongs, rose by 32.2%.
The general export turnover in ten months was at an estimate of USD 57.8 billion, growing by 23.3% as against the same period in 2009. Of which, the domestic economic sector gained 26.8 billion US$, going up by 20.4%; the FDI sector 31 billion US$, up by 25.8%, if the crude oil was excluded, this sector’s export turnover was 27 billion USD, up by 39.9%.
The general import turnover in 10 months was at an estimate of 67.3 billion USD, up by 20.7% as compared to the same period in 2009, of which the domestic economic sector gained 38.2 billion USD, up by 8.7%; and the FDI sector with 29.1 billion USD, up by 41.2%.
Trade deficit in 10 months was at an estimate of 9.5 billion USD, equal to 16.4% of the export turnover.
Consumer Price Index (CPI)
October’s CPI rose by 1.05% against the previous month. Those groups of goods and service with the rising more than 1% were: education with the highest increase of 3.9%; catering and related services by 1.32% (food by 1.89%; foodstuff by 1.22%); housing and construction material by 1.04%. Those groups of goods and service with the rising below 1% or decrease were: drinks and tobacco with a rise by 0.9%; family tools and appliances by 0.48%; textile, hats and footgear by 0.4%; medicines and health services by 0.27%; transport by 0.2%; culture, entertainment and tourism by 0.16%; post and telecommunication with a decrease by 0.07%.
The CPI in October 2010 rose by 7.58% against December 2009; and by 9.66% against the same period last year. The average CPI in ten months of this year rose by 8.75% against that in the same period in 2009.
October’s gold price rose by 7.87% over the previous month; by 13.47% against December 2009 and by 38.01% against the same period in 2009. October’s US$ price went up by 0.6% over the previous month; by 3.52% against December 2009 and by 8.37% against the same period in 2009.
Carriage of passengers and cargos
Passenger carriage in ten months was estimated at 2,002.8 million participants, increasing by 14.2% and 87.6 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 16.3% against the same period last year. Of which, the central transport gained 32.8 million participants, rose by 11.2% and 22.6 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 14.6%; the local transport 1,970.1 million participants, increasing by 14.4 % and 65.1 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 16.4%. The land transport was estimated achieving 1,835.9 million participants, rose by 15% and 63.4 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 13.5%; the river 140.2 million participants, rose by 3.4% and 2.9 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 3.5%; the aviation 11.6 million participants, rose by 32% and 17.3 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 30.6%; the sea 5.4 million participants, rose by 4.3% and 345.1 million passengers-kilometers, up by 5.3%; the rail 9.7 million participants, rose by 5,5% and 3.6 billion passengers-kilometers, up by 7.8% .
The volume of cargos carried in 10 months was at an estimate of585.5 million tons, going up by 12.1% and 180.3 billion tons-kilometers, up by 9.9% against the same period last year. Of which, the domestic transport gained 546.5 million tons, going up by 12.4% and 51.4 billion tons-kilometers, up by 10.1%; the overseas transport 39 million tons, going up by 10.6% and 128.9 billion tons-kilometers, up by 8.4%. The land transport gained 436.5 million tons, going up by 13.1% and 23.9 billion tons-kilometers, up by 14.3%; the river 98.2 million tons, up by 5.1% and 15.7 billion tons-kilometers, up by 1.1%; the sea 44.2 million tons up by 20% and 137.2 billion tons-kilometers, up by 10.3%; the rail 6.4 million tons, decreased by 5.3% and 3.2 billion tons-kilometers, up by 1.5%.
The number of new telephone subscribers from beginning of the year to the end of 10/2010 has been 35.2 million, rose by 5.4% against the same period in 2009, including 771,900 desk telephone subscribers, down by 39.6% and 34.5 million mobile phone subscribers, up by 7.2%. The number of telephone subscribers over the country to end of 10/2010 was estimated at 160.8 million, increased by 40.2% against the same period last year, including 16.4 million desk telephone subscribers, up by 6.8% and 144.4 million mobile phone subscribers, up by 45.3%.
The number of internet users as of end of 10/2010 was estimated at 3.6 million, rose by 27% against the same period last year. The number of internet users as of the end of October 2010 has been 26.8 million, up by 20.7% against the same period last year. The total postal and communicational service net income in 10 months was estimated at 104.1 trillion dongs, going up by 28.3% over the same period last year.
International visitors to Viet Nam
International visitors to Viet Nam in 10 months were estimated at 4,172,000, increased by 39% against the same period last year. Of which,visitors coming for tourist purposes were 2,605,700, rose by 46.6%; for business purposes 843,700, up by 42.9%; for visiting relatives 470,500 up by 8.1%.
According to local preliminary reports, in October 2010 (as of 20/10), the country had 24,400 households with 108,000 members suffered from food shortage, accounted for 0.21% of the total number of agricultural households and 0.22% of the total number of agricultural members.
Epidemic diseases and food poisoning
Generally in ten months, the country had 33,500 cases of malaria (9 died); 88,600 cases of hemorrhagic fever (55 died); 5,300 cases of viral hepatitis; 620 cases of virus encephalitis (17 died); 205 cases of Neisseria meningitidis and 122 cases of food poisoning with 4,500 affected persons (37 died).
In October 2010, additional 1,200 persons were found infected with HIV, bringing the total number of HIV-infected persons over the country to the end of October 2010 to nearly 229,000, of which 90,900 turned to AIDS and over 48,400 persons died of AIDS.
Generally in 9 months of 2010, the country had 10,145 cases of traffic accident, killing 8,395 persons and injuring7,480 others. As compared to the same period in 2009, cases of traffic accident rose by 10.8%, the death decreased by1.1%, and the injured rose by 30.6%. On average, each day in 9 months, the country had37 cases of traffic accident, killing 31 persons and injuring27 others.
Calamity that occurred in the month (from 21/9 to 21/10/2010) had great impact on the people’s life in many provinces and cities over the country. Total losses were estimated at 8.5 trillion dongs./.
