VGP accompanies the country’s development, says Minister
10/01/2009 – 15:07:00 AM

VGP – Since making debut three years ago, the Vietnamese Government Website, now the Government Web Portal (VGP), has vigorously developed and practically contributed to the country’s socio-economic development and the construction of e-government.

Minister Nguyễn Xuân Phúc, who is assigned by the PM to manage the Portal, praised VGP as an official information channel playing an important role in disseminating the Party and State's policies as well as the Government's performance.

Mr. Phúc, Chairman of the Vietnamese Government Office, made the statement on the occasion of VGP's 3rd birthday (January 10). He highly spoke of VGP's effective contributions to solving urgent issues over the past time.

He recalled the online talks and dialogues made by PM Nguyễn Tấn Dũng and other Cabinet members which, as the Minister stressed, helped to promote administrative reforms, raise the performance of the State management apparatus, and further enhance democracy in the social life.

According to Minister Phúc, one of assignments conducted by VGP is to build up the online interrelationship between the Government and people and the business community.

"They (people and enterprises) can now access to VGP daily in order to know about guidelines, policies, decisions and plans of the Government and local authorities," said Mr. Phúc.

In fact, organizations and individuals have been able to freely exploit legal documents from VGP.

Through VGP, they can also express their desire, aspirations and opinions to the Government, especially in designing proper legal documents.

"With English version and other foreign language ones in the near future, VGP has helped to provide our international friends with better insight in the Vietnamese country and people," stated the Minister.

The head of the Government Office revealed that, under Decision 83/2008/QĐ-TTg inked by the PM on June 25, 2008, VGP will undertake three important functions: (1) being the Government's e-newspaper; (2) creating an online hub for information provided by the Government, ministries, localities and relevant entities; and (3) providing a portal of public services.

He emphasized that this will be a turning point in the development of VGP, so as to further serve the Government's performance and meeting people's increasing demand for information in the period of national industrialization, modernization and international integration.

The Minister took the occasion to urge VGP's staff to spare no effort and sharpen their creativity and qualification.
